Since it’s still relatively new and there’s not too much known about it, I wanted to  give a basic breakdown in case you’re interested in utilizing it. This is a great way to update and transform picture or graphic-based books.

A few minutes on Pinterest often leaves its users extremely hungry, adventurous and creative. This is due to the fact that the new social media network is an exceptional resource for finding new recipes, inspiring ideas for arts and craft projects and more. As with any social media network, there also exists the potential for you to promote your own Kindle book on Pinterest and get it out to the masses.

In this post we’ll be talking a look at four of the most effective methods that authors can use to promote their book wares on Pinterest. So let’s jump right along into it, yes?

1. Properly Showcasing Your Work

3. Present a Sounding Board for Fans and Critics Alike

Opening up your books (or even possible ideas for future books) for discussion on Pinterest is an excellent strategy, namely in that your fans will feel much more connected with your work and is if they had a part to play in potential ideas or plotlines you may have been having trouble with.

A Pinterest open discussion or sounding board also offers an excellent opportunity to gain some solid and constructive feedback on potential book covers you’re thinking about using for your Kindle books as well. Listening and responding to any active criticism on your past or present Kindle books will also paint you in a more humble, favorable light as well – so it really is a win-win either way.

4. Continuously Building Your Brand

Whether you realize it or not, you’re a brand and your usage and productivity on all of the social platforms you utilize feeds into this. While obviously you’re going to focus the vast majority of your time on these platforms to promoting your own Kindle book(s), don’t let this completely restrict you from not having a little fun like everyone else.

So you’ve got an ISBN number for your newly created book and you’re feeling pretty good. Congratulations! You’ve certainly earned it!

But perhaps more importantly is the fact that you need to know exactly what you can and can’t do with your ISBN number –

So what do you need to know about ISBN numbers — and, more importantly, your ISBN number? Well, let’s find out, shall we?

Different ISBN Numbers Are Needed For Every Version of Your Book

In reality, a different ISBN number is indeed needed for each title, revised edition and — most importantly — format or binding. The latter of which consists of paperbacks, hardcovers and e-books. And in this day and age in which many new authors strike out from the world of digital e-books, you’d do well to know — and remember — that should you get your new Kindle book published in actual paperback and/or hardcover form, you’ll need a separate ISBN number for each version.

ISBN Numbers Are Printed In Two Different Places

ISBN numbers are most well-known for being printed on the lower portion of the back cover just above the book’s barcode. However, lesser known is the fact that an ISBN number also must reside in printed form on the copyright page as well. .

Your ISBN Number Must Be Registered With R.R. Bowker

Who is R.R. Bowker you may be asking? Well, they’re only the premier database record keepers for the ISBN Agency. And as such, must be registered with them in order to actually be recognized as possessing an official ISBN number at all.

Book authors and publishers can get free listings in various directories such as Books in Print, Words on Cassette, Createspace and the like, but in order to ensure that your titles ever get into the Books in Print database at all, you must first submit your book’s title information along with the ISBN number you’ve already registered with R.R. Bowker. So there’s that!

Whether you’re writing and/or publishing your own fiction or non-fiction Kindle books, establishing a series is an excellent idea.Looking at some of the best-selling books and movies currently on the market today, many extremely popular, extremely lucrative series stand out almost everywhere you look. From the Harry Potter series of books and movies, the classic …For Dummies non-fiction instructional guides, to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series (which has now been adapted into a hit HBO TV series, to the love-it-or-hate-it Twilight books and movies, it’s quite apparent that people love (and will subsequently shell out money for) them multi-part series entertainment.

Thinking in the same vein as the …For Dummies series of instructional books, non-fiction series work best when you’re continuously offering something of value. Thus, they usually aren’t of a biographical/autobiographical nature since there’s only so much information that exists — or at least exists that people will care about — regarding a single person. However, subjects such as countries, cultures, instructionals, food recipes and the like — really anything consisting of any kind of information that can be presented in an episodic nature — are perfect for non-fiction series’.

Your best bet if you’re having trouble coming up with a solid idea is to just look at the top best-selling non-fiction books and reference or take note of which of them span over multiple books or exist in some kind of series.

While it may seem that fictional books would be vastly easier to craft into a series, the important thing to remember is that in order to do so, you’re going to need to create a solid, cohesive story that — perhaps most importantly — makes sense to have stretched over multiple books.

Some of the most popular fictional series — both currently and in the past — are fantasy and science fiction series. This is largely due to the fact that fantasy and science fiction stories are so much more easily scaled to an epic level. So much so that there’s practically an entire genre for this type of fiction called epic fantasy/science fiction. Think the Lord of the Rings, the aforementioned A Song of Ice and Fire and Ender’s Game – the latter of which you most certainly read at least the very first one in high school sometime.

Series works well with other genres too. Romance, for example can often be a series. This can be done as the continuing development of one relationship (50 Shades of Grey) or as a series of loosely connected books that take place within one family or one town. Paranormal and multi-genre series (Sookie Stackhouse series, for example) are also incredibly popular.

While technically any topic could be crafted into a series, perhaps the best series are created — or are at least created the easiest — by letting it happen naturally. Trying to force your set of Kindle books into a series of different books could very well simply diminish the overall value of the books as they stand alone, and that’s certainly never good.

However, series publishing can be smart marketing. With multiple books in a series, you can cross promote your other books much easier and grow your audience. The best way to do this would be to plan out your series before you start your writing and publishing.

If you’ve been following the news regarding Kindle book publishing/marketing and the Amazon marketplace, you’ve no doubt heard the hubbub regarding the new “Send to Kindle” feature that’s just been rolled out. So what exactly is it? And what does it mean — if anything — for those of us who make a living as Kindle book authors, publishers and marketers (not to mention us simply as avid Kindle book readers and hobbyists as well)?

In layman’s terms, the new Send to Kindle feature essentially makes sending longer reads, ones that you may not be able to read on your computer or laptop at any given time, much easier. Thus, it’s primarily the most useful for blog posts and other articles — nothing really longer than serial short stories.  It’ s a great tool to increase blog readership and easy to install.

Believe it or not, setting up your WordPress blog to utilize a “Send to Kindle” button at the end (or beginning, if you’d prefer) of each post is incredibly simple and easy. Simply head to the plugins section via the navigational menu on the left-hand side of your screen, search for “Send to Kindle” and download and install the plugin to your blog/website.

Although there are in-depth instructions included with the plugin to help guide you through actually setting up and enabling the plugin, it’s really very simple. And if you’ve ever setup or installed any other plugin on your WordPress blog/site before, you should have no trouble at all.

While you certainly don’t need to custom tailor your entire blog or website towards the linkbait version of “Sending to Kindle” hits, this is a great tool to establish rapport with your blog readers. Namely, that whenever someone sends your article or post to their Kindle for later reading, they’re establishing a connection that could very well lead to them becoming a loyal, long-term reader well into the future.

Namely, you’re obviously going to want to try and craft longer, more in-depth style pieces, but perhaps most importantly, you’re going to want to try and make these articles as engaging, entertaining or enticing as possible.

Just as you would with linkbait, the name of the game here — at least in regards to trying to specifically create posts that will be conducive to a few people sending/saving said posts to their Kindles, is controversy. Not simply being controversial for the sake of being controversial, but at the very least trying to stick to topics that will garner some kind of emotional charge or reaction from the reader, regardless of whether it’s positive or negative.

Being such a new feature, there’s really no telling how much potential or uses this new Send to Kindle feature can provide. But you can rest assured we’ll be exploring and detailing any new techniques and strategies as they become apparent in the near future. So stay tuned!
